---THE BIG BULLS ARE COMING TO MEDORA---
The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame (NDCHF) and four time North Dakota Rodeo Association Bull Riding Champion Jerry Weinberger have joined forces to promote the second annual Battle of the Badlands Bull Riding Blowout in Medora. The two-day bull riding event at Medora’s rodeo grounds on Friday and Saturday July 28 and 29 will feature 30 bull riders and some of the toughest rodeo bulls in North Dakota.
The two-day bull riding match is sanctioned by the Badlands Professional Bull Riders Association. Weinberger who now raises rodeo bulls on his ranch near Brein in Morton County says, “The prize money is big and we’ll have some of the toughest bucking stock in the state in Medora”. Riders are expected from at least four states and Canada.
In addition to the 30 riders who will compete daily, the Medora Bull Riding Blow Out will also feature the “Ring of Danger” both days. A limited number of spectators will be invited to stand inside individual circles inside the arena. Then, one of the toughest bulls is turned loose in the arena. The last person still standing inside their circle wins the cash prize. Participants are required to wear flack jackets and must sign legal releases.
The Badlands Bull Riding Blowout will offer a thousand dollar purse. The purse will be added to entry fees and provide about $4,000 in prize money for the 30 riders to split at the Medora event.
This is the first rodeo event sponsored by the NDCHF and it’s just a week prior to the fourth round of inductions for the six -year old organization of nearly a thousand members. The Hall of Fame hopes to break ground in Medora in September 2002 on a 14 thousand square foot center of western heritage and history and plans to sponsor several events in Medora each summer.
The induction ceremonies for 15 inductees will be held on Saturday, August 4th at 1:00 p.m. at the Tjaden Terrace in Medora. Additional induction activities will take place on Sunday August 5th at the famed Champions Ride at the Home on the Range in Sentinel Butte. Cowboy Hall of Fame Executive Director Darrell Dorgan says five radio stations will carry the induction ceremonies and more than 600 friends and family members of the 15 inductees are expected to attend.
