Wild West Art Show
---HALL OF FAME SETS DATE FOR JURIED MEDORA ART SHOW AND SALE ---
Paintings and sculptures are being sought for the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame first annual Wild West Art Show and Sale in Medora.
Hall of Fame spokesman Darrell Dorgan says the juried show and sale will be held on September 9 and 10. Twenty-five works will be accepted for auction and another 25 for consignment at the Hall of Fame’s Center of Western Heritage and Cultures in Medora.
Dorgan says, “The sale and show will not be limited to western art. The jury will also consider contemporary and secondary pieces that current owners may wish to sell. Decisions on what will be shown and sold will be made by a jury. Artists interested in consigning work for consideration can do so by e-mailing a digital photo of their work to the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame at info@northdakotacowboy.com.
United Printing of Bismarck is sponsoring the show and spokesman Joe Hauer says a color catalogue of the accepted entries will be sent to potential buyers and available to others two months prior to the event. Hauer says, “The pieces in the show and sale will go on display in Medora on Labor Day weekend and remain available for viewing until the actual sale on September 10. Although we expect the majority of the pieces to be new, opening the show and sale to secondary art will allow collectors to sell pieces important from their existing collections.”
Hauer, an art collector, has agreed to provide two major pieces from his collection for the sale.
The actual sale will take place on the Center’s patio following a reception on Friday evening, September 9, and a wine tasting and discussion with artists on Saturday, September 10.
The Hall of Fame’s Center of Western Heritage and Cultures: Native American, Ranching and Rodeo played host to 25,000 visitors last summer after officially opening on August 6. It has been available for viewing by appointment since closing for the winter months the end of September. It will begin its 2006 season on May 1 and will sponsor a series of events in May and June.
The Hall of Fame’s first annual Wild West Series of events begins with a Badlands trail ride and barbecue on May 20. A kids showdeo will be held on the 21st. Activities continue at the Medora arena with team penning on Saturday, June 3, and ranch sorting competition on June 4. Team roping will be held on June 10 and 11 and a barrel racing will be held on June 24 and 25.
The changing exhibit Gallery will feature a special showing by the late Gary Miller and the sculptures of Robert Scriver for the summer.
Special events will also be held on July 22, which has been designated as the National Day of the Cowboy.
The juried Art Show and Sale will end the Wild West Series of activities on September 9 and 10. Dorgan hopes the annual art show can be built into one of the state’s best. He notes that it will be held on the same weekend as the Badlands Balloon Rally, and September is a beautiful time in Medora and the Badlands.
Anyone wanting additional information about the art show can call the Hall of Fame in Bismarck (250-1833) or the Center of Western Heritage and Cultures in Medora (623-2000). Information will also be posted on the group’s website at www.northdakotacowboy.com.

There deadline for submitting digital photos of works for entries is June 23.
