---ARTIST GARY P. MILLER FEATURED AT HALL OF FAME---
Gary P. Miller is the featured artist in the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame changing exhibit gallery in Medora this summer. Miller, who died three years ago, gained regional and national recognition with his paintings of historic sites and rural America during his lifetime.
Eight of Miller’s originals, including “Country Chores”; “Campsite 1805”; “Field of Gold” and “Along the Missouri” are on display daily, along with four Gieclee prints. Limited edition prints of the Miller originals from the changing exhibit gallery are also on sale in the Hall of Fame gift shop until the end of September.
Miller began exhibiting his work in 1960 and immediately gained regional and national recognition with his paintings. He was featured in Southwest Art; U.S. Art; and American Artists of Renown. His originals skyrocketed in prices but, because Gary wanted his art available to everyone, he and his wife Darla, produced limited edition prints of many of his works.
Hall of Fame Executive Director Darrell Dorgan says the exhibit of Miller paintings is one of the largest showings ever of his originals, “The display of talent and sensitivity in his work to history and rural America is remarkable. We are thrilled to have this wonderful collection for the summer and hope people from across the region will take the opportunity to view his incredible work,” he said.
During his lifetime, Miller earned numerous “People’s Choice” awards from art shows across the country. He also received numerous honors and awards, including the Old West Trail Foundation “William F. Cody Award” for portraying America in his paintings.
In addition to the rare exhibition of Miller originals, 15 sculptures by Robert Scriver are also part of this summer’s exhibition. The Hall of Fame owns 100 of the Scriver sculptures, but exhibits only 15 a year. The remainder of the collection is in storage at Dickinson State University, where Scriver was once a student. DSU also exhibits some of the Scriver works. Robert Scriver died in 1999, and the collection of Scriver sculptures, valued at more than $350,000 was given to the Hall of Fame by Montana benefactor Rex Breneman in 2003.
The Hall of Fame and changing exhibit gallery are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Medora until the end of September.
